The frenzy of Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday is behind us. While we feature sales and specials for our customers, I sometimes wonder how much thought shoppers really give to the items they purchase on these extremely hyped sale days. In our nearly twenty-five years of marriage, Lee and I have shopped just once at a Black Friday Sale for two items we had researched and knew we were buying at an exceptionally good price. That shopping trip about ten years ago involved a visit to the mall, and now our shopping is nearly 100% online--in comfort at home and hassle-free.
The Thanksgiving Weekend shopping craze has been around for a long time, and "Black Friday" became the day many retail merchants had their finances go from being in the "red" to being in the "black".

Why do we give a gift? On some occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, religious or cultural celebrations--it's customary to do so. For many of us, the underlying reason is to show appreciation and express our gratitude to the person for what they mean to us.
In reality, gifts don't express appreciation, people do--providing they are genuine in giving the gift. A gift that has been thoughtfully chosen will be a delight to the person receiving it, and bring happiness to the giver.
A young man visited our display at the recent Christmas in the Country Show and looked at the Birthstone earrings and pendants. He left, and returned a bit later with a woman I felt was probably his mother. He showed her some of the Birthstone items, selected a pendant and matching earrings, and smiling, handed them to me. I asked if the items were for a gift and would he like boxes? His mother quickly answered "yes" and we exchanged a knowing "mother to mother" smile. I'm sure this young man and a lucky young lady will both be happy with the gift!
